With the kids out of school this past week, I thought it would be the perfect time to make ornaments for the tree. We had a few left over from last year so we only made 3 different kinds of new ones. The kids loved the diy ornaments so much last year! I did throw in some sparkly red snowflakes I had from a few years ago...other than that, everything is handmade.
We glued different color buttons on to styrofoam balls. Our color theme this year was blue, pink, red and green.
Next, were the tissue paper balls. All you do is cut different color tissue paper into 2 inch squares, crinkle them up and glue them on to styrofoam balls. I took a pin and poked it through silver ribbon to hang them. With styrofoam, you can't use just any old glue. They do make styrofoam glue but we didn't have any on hand and opted for the glue gun. Xander used a low temp one and Gia was in charge of crinkling the paper...she loved that!
Horrible lighting I know but I had to show a pic of the chaos which is craft time. ;)
Since some of these were more girlie colors, I let Xander decorate a few ornaments with his favorite things... Legos! He also has several Lego men climbing the tree in a race to the top.
I loved the tissue paper thing so much that I made a Christmas tree for the mantle using cone shaped styrofoam.
Our finished tree...
We also made a paper chain from scrapbook paper to finish off our day of craftiness. The solid color chain was one that we made last year.
We finished up our Advent Calendar today so I will share that shortly. I have been dying to watch Angels and Demons so I am finally going to be able to sit down with The Baconator and watch a movie in peace (kids go to bed early because they are back to school tomorrow!).

This year, we were able to go and get our tree the day after Thanksgiving. I love being able to put it up and have a month to stare at all the sparkly Christmas cheer. Yes, that may be sappy but there is something really magical about decorating that tree and having it in our living room. Every year, we visit a tree farm near us to pick the perfect tree, cut it down and take it home. This year it was actually chilly enough for jackets and long sleeves so that made it feel much more like Winter. I played around with the black and white effects on these photos. I love the starkness of them.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We went to my sister's house this year and it was awesome... awesome because the food was great and awesome because I didn't have to clean up before or after! ;) I was in charge of bringing green beans and a desert. I was going to make 2 pumpkin pies but The Baconator wouldn't let me. Well, he persuaded me not too put any pressure on myself (like I do every holiday) and end up staying awake until 3:00 am baking and stuff. So I bought the pies this year and they were pretty good, I was satisfied. :) Here are some photos from the day...
When we got there both of my littlest nephews were fast asleep.
When little Memphis woke up, I snatched him to take some pics of those baby blues! He has gotten so big since the last time I saw him.
Next, was little Tristan. I just love this little booger...he is so tiny and just flippin cute!
I love this pic with him and his Daddy!
Our take homes from dinner....oh it was SO good. Fried Cajun turkey, gibblet gravy, corn bread dressing, potato salad, deviled eggs, sweet potatoes, green beans, ham and pecan and pumpkin pie.
I realize that I didn't post any photos of my kids. They were there but I never get to photograph my little nephews so I thought I would let them rule this post. :)

Gia absolutely loves Food Network and cooking shows in general. I have a feeling that she is going to be a chef one day. :) Last night we watched a Martha Stewart Thanksgiving desert special that I had recorded for her. Well, today as she was playing with her Playdoh I could hear her talking about how you fold down the corners and bake it just right... then she brought over her masterpiece. It was Martha's Apple pie in Playdoh form. She even had the hole cut to vent the pie.
Her crimped edges. :)
I think even Martha would be proud. :)

When I went outside to snap a pic of my crafty creation for this week, Xander was the laying on the grass in the front yard so I snapped a few photos of him too. I thought I would play around a little with some new actions I came across last week.
I love the look of black and white photography!
I found this cool Comic Book action that I know I will be using a lot in the future. I can't remember where I got it from so I can't post the link. :( sorry!

This week I decided to make a mini-scrapbook for my little sister's 27th birthday. She has three boys and since I am the photographer in the family, I have all of the pictures of them. I actually went the easy route and bought a premade kit but jazzed it up with some extras I found to match and some I had in my ever growing scrapbook stash.
I did a few pages for each boy...from oldest to youngest. This one happens to be my little man Tristan (the middle one) who has the bluest eyes. I could photograph him all day. Even my kids got in on this craft. Believe it or not, this is the first time I have made a scrapbook. I love paper and use scrapbook stuff for just about everything but scrapbooking. I hope she likes it. :)
Next week is going to be busy busy with making ornaments and decorations for our Christmas Tree....fun, fun, fun!
